Golf:
The International Golf Travel Awards voted the whole Lisbon Golf Coast as established golf destination of the year 2003. There
are many golf courses but the nearest are:
Praia del Rey.
The only Portuguese golf course to be voted in Golf Magazine's Top 100 Golf Courses of the World in 2005. This course
has characteristics of an authentic "links". It unfurls itself mainly along a cliff looking over the Atlantic Ocean,
allowing for views of unique beauty over the sea, dunes, lakes and the pine forest that dominates the local landscape. The
course is a Par 72 (6,467 metres).
Rio Maior.
The Golden Eagle Golf and Country Club is set in a 1,300 acre site, the golf course covers 200 acres. Designed by Rocky
Roquemore, the essence of this course is accuracy as its design is typical of the modern U.S. school. The course is a par
72 (6,200 metres).
Consolação, Peniche.
The Atlantico Golf Course is situated near the dunes of Consolação beach. The course, with its six lakes and big bunkers
runs parallel to the beach for two and a half kilometres. The nine holes have different setting-off tees which makes playing
a second round very different from the first.
Porto Novo, Torres Vedras.
Vimeiro Golf Course unfurls between cliffs with sea views on one side and on the other it looks inland over hills and
woods. It was designed by Frank Pennink to run along the banks of the Alcabrichel river, which naturally divides the course
into two sections.
Watersports:
There are 2 waterparks within a 40 minute drive of the villa. The
larger one is just north of Nazare and the other is just on the edge of Peniche.
The sandy surfing beaches of Baleal, Peniche and the Obidos lagoon
are well known and offer lessons in surfing, kite or wind surfing, jet skiing and banana boats.
The Berlenga Islands
have calm and crystalline waters that are renowned for diving.
Birdwatching:
Portugal is a haven for birdwatchers, and the location of our villa will allow you to visit many renowned birding sites without
spending all day in the car.
With the villa being in the countryside and close to a small wood and a vineyard, there will be plenty to see without
having to walk too far. Within 30 minutes you can be overlooking the Obidos Lagoon or even boarding a boat to visit the sea
bird colonies on the Berlenga Islands. An hour to the south are the fantastic estuaries around Lisbon including the Tejo Estuary.
Further North (about 90 minutes) is the Mondego River and slightly further still are the Estrella mountains.
The link below gives a good indication of what birds you may get to see in which locations.
